How to qualify
- Time in business. Many online lenders want 12+ months (Bluevine requires it for its line of credit).
- Revenue. Bluevine asks for $10,000 a month ($120,000 a year).
- Credit score. Bluevine: 625+ personal FICO. National Funding: most customers 600+.
- Good standing. Lenders check that your LLC is active — keep your annual report filed and get a certificate of good standing if asked.
- Business bank history. Lenders review recent statements — another reason to use a dedicated business account.
- Business credit. A file with Dun & Bradstreet, Experian and Equifax helps. How to build it.
Documents lenders ask for
- EIN and Articles of Organization
- Operating agreement (shows who can borrow for the LLC)
- Business bank statements — often the last 3 months
- Business and personal tax returns
- Government ID for owners
- Debt schedule and, for larger loans, financial statements and a business plan
Watch out for
- Factor rates — a 1.25 factor on $50,000 means $62,500 back, often within months.
- Daily or weekly payments that strain cash flow.
- Personal guarantees that put your own assets on the line.
- Hard credit pulls — Bluevine says checking eligibility doesn’t affect your score, but accepting an offer may trigger a hard inquiry.
Frequently asked questions
Can an LLC get a business loan?
Yes. LLCs qualify for SBA loans, bank and online term loans, lines of credit and equipment financing. Some lenders require an LLC or corporation — Bluevine’s line of credit, for example, isn’t available to sole proprietorships.
What credit score do I need for an LLC business loan?
It varies by lender. Bluevine’s line of credit asks for a 625+ personal FICO; National Funding says most of its customers have 600 or higher. SBA lenders look at overall creditworthiness and ability to repay.
Will I have to personally guarantee an LLC loan?
Often, yes — especially for newer LLCs. A personal guarantee makes you liable if the LLC can’t repay, which overrides the LLC’s liability shield for that debt. Read the loan agreement carefully.
Can a new LLC get a loan?
It’s harder: many online lenders want 12 months of history and steady revenue. Options for new LLCs include SBA microloans (up to $50,000), equipment financing and building business credit first. See startup loan options.
What documents do I need?
Typically your EIN, formation documents, operating agreement, business bank statements (often the last 3 months), tax returns, ID, and proof of good standing with your state. Bluevine lists good standing with your Secretary of State as a requirement.
What is a factor rate?
A fixed multiplier used by some short-term lenders instead of an APR. A 1.25 factor on $50,000 means you repay $62,500 in total. Because terms are short, the equivalent APR can be high — always compare total payback.
