Methodology

How we research

Official sources, visible verification dates and plain-English summaries. Here is exactly how every page is built.

1. Official sources only

Fees, deadlines, penalties and filing requirements come from the state’s own websites: the Secretary of State or Division of Corporations, the state tax agency and published statutes. Every figure on a page links to the source it came from.

2. Verified, with a date

Each page shows when its facts were last checked against the official source. We re-check every state monthly, and more often during the January–May filing season.

3. Plain English

We summarize what the rule means for a small LLC: what to file, when, how much it costs and what happens if you’re late. When a rule is ambiguous or sources disagree, we say so and point to the primary source.

4. How we compare providers

Registered agent and filing services are compared on published prices, renewal terms, what’s included and state coverage, using each provider’s own public pages. We do not claim to have personally tested services unless we say so explicitly.

5. Independence

Some links earn us a commission. Commissions never change the facts we publish or the order of comparisons. See our affiliate disclosure.

6. Corrections

Found something out of date? Email hello@llcstanding.com with the page and the source. We review corrections within two business days.
